WHO WE ARE

The General Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives in the European Union (COGECA) is recognised by the European Institutions as the main representative body for the entire agricultural and fisheries cooperative sector. Therefore, agricultural cooperatives from the European Union Member States can become members of COGECA, which aims to develop the cooperative business model and to contribute to the formation of policies for agriculture and rural areas throughout the European Union.
In parallel with Turkey’s accession process to the European Union, Agricultural Credit Cooperatives of Turkey became a partner organization of COGECA in 2004.
Based in Brussels, COGECA represents the interests of some 40,000 farmers’ cooperatives employing some 660,000 people and with a global annual turnover in excess of three hundred billion euros throughout the enlarged Europe. Agricultural cooperatives affiliated with COGECA have more than 50% market share in the supply of agricultural inputs and more than 60% in the processing and marketing of agricultural products.
Operating within the European Union, COGECA also works in coordination with the European Union Commission.
